Infantino Signals Openness to Dialogue on FIFA Governance Reform
The letter addressed the previously abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal and presented two separate reform initiatives that Infantino plans to raise ahead of the FIFA Council's Oct. 15 meeting.
Under the first proposal, Infantino said the Council could consider commissioning an independent outside assessment of FIFA's existing governance arrangements for major strategic projects, with the review also examining possible areas for improvement.
“First, I will ask the Council whether it wishes to commission an independent external review of FIFA’s current governance framework for major strategic initiatives and recommend potential improvements,” Infantino’s letter reads.
His second proposal calls for a formal consultation process involving FIFA's confederations, member associations and other relevant stakeholders.
“Second, I will propose that the Council establish a direct, structured and time-limited consultation with confederations, Member Associations and relevant stakeholders on how FIFA’s decision-making can be further strengthened.
“The consultation would invite specific proposals on earlier institutional involvement, the respective roles of the President, the Bureau, the Council and the Congress, and practical ways to strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in major strategic initiatives.”
The proposals are set to be considered as FIFA prepares for the upcoming Council meeting and continues discussions surrounding its governance and decision-making processes.
