"The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada, very good news for our Farmers and Ranchers," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
The announcement did not include information about the proposed agreement’s timeline, potential purchase volumes or specific terms. It also did not confirm whether Belarus had formally accepted or committed to the arrangement.
Canada currently holds the position of the world’s largest potash producer and serves as the United States’ primary supplier of the fertilizer component.
Data for 2024 showed that Canada produced nearly 25 million metric tons of potash, accounting for 32.8% of global production. Belarus ranked third worldwide with approximately 12.1 million tons, representing 15.9% of total global output, according to Canadian government data.
