AfD Leader Urges Ukrainians in Germany to Return Home
Weidel criticized the amount of welfare support being provided to Ukrainians in Germany, arguing that the financial costs have become too difficult for the country to sustain.
“More than one million Ukrainians in Germany are receiving welfare benefits. It is actually unbelievable, and none of this is financially sustainable anymore,” she said.
She also argued that Ukrainians who are eligible for military service should return to their homeland, particularly young men.
“These Ukrainians also have to return. Especially the young Ukrainian men of military age — we’re talking about numbers in the six figures — those young men should kindly go back,” she added.
Weidel extended her position to Syrian nationals living in Germany, saying they should also leave once the circumstances that originally justified their protection no longer remain.
“For Syrian citizens who came to us, as soon as the reason for fleeing no longer exists in their country of origin, these people have to go back,” she said.
She further argued that asylum should be regarded as a temporary form of protection rather than a pathway to permanent residence. In her view, individuals should return to their countries of origin once the circumstances that led them to seek asylum have ended, rather than remain in Germany and eventually obtain citizenship.
