Russia, Ukraine Trade Overnight Strikes, Casualties Reported

(MENAFN) Reciprocal aerial attacks overnight inflicted civilian casualties across both Ukraine and Russia on Tuesday, with regional authorities on each side reporting deaths and injuries from drone and missile bombardments.

In Ukraine, the Kharkiv regional military administration confirmed two people were killed and 12 others wounded in a Russian airstrike. The Chernihiv regional administration reported an additional toll from a strike on the city of Priluki — two fatalities and 17 injured.

Across the border, Kursk region governor Aleksandr Khinshtein announced via Telegram that a Ukrainian drone strike left one person dead and two wounded. In the Yaroslavl region, governor Mikhail Yevrayev confirmed a drone had struck an industrial target, with emergency crews deployed to battle the resulting fire. "Most of the drones were shot down; however, an industrial facility was hit. The relevant services are eliminating the fire," he wrote on Telegram.

In one of the night's most consequential developments, state nuclear corporation Rosatom described a Ukrainian strike on Energodar — the company town adjoining the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant — as one of the "most serious" attacks yet on the facility, which has remained under Russian occupation since February 2022.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 315 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory during the overnight exchange. The ministry further claimed that Russian ground forces had taken control of the settlement of Volokhivka in Ukraine's Kharkiv region.
