Israel reportedly weighs broader military push in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli forces are reportedly making preparations for a wider ground offensive in Lebanon as officials await approval from the country’s political leadership.

According to reports citing Israeli media, military units have already begun logistical and operational preparations despite the ceasefire currently in place, with Israel accusing Hezbollah of continuing violations.

“In light of the ceasefire and the ongoing violations by Hezbollah, the Israeli army is already preparing on the ground to expand its ground operations in Lebanon,” reports quoted from Channel 12 said.

The report stated that the military is carrying out field preparations “to create the possibility of expanding the fighting,” depending on decisions taken by Israeli leaders.

“We are preparing for the possibility that the political echelon will give the green light to expand the operation in Lebanon,” an unnamed Israeli military source was quoted as saying.

Reports indicated that three Israeli military divisions are currently deployed in Lebanon.

Israeli media also highlighted growing concerns over the use of explosive drones targeting troops operating in southern Lebanon. According to the report, Hezbollah has increasingly depended on explosive drones “as its main weapon in the current campaign.”

The report added that the drones have become a serious challenge for Israeli forces, contributing to fatalities and injuries while existing countermeasures remain ineffective on the ground.

According to reports, Israel’s Northern Command has stepped up intelligence operations aimed at locating and targeting drone operators, though officials reportedly believe current efforts are still insufficient.

Israeli officials have also expressed mounting concern over Hezbollah’s use of fiber-optic drone technology. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously described the drones as a “major threat” because they are difficult to track and intercept.

Reports said the drones function through thin fiber-optic cables that unwind during flight, enabling operators to transmit commands and live video feeds directly through the cable rather than by radio signals that can be jammed. The drones also reportedly avoid reliance on GPS or wireless communication, making detection significantly harder.
