Israeli Army Reports Helicopter Malfunction in Southern Lebanon Mission
(MENAFN) The Israeli military said Monday that one of its helicopters experienced a technical malfunction while attempting to evacuate wounded soldiers in southern Lebanon, denying reports that it had been hit by fire from Hezbollah.
According to a military statement, the aircraft landed in an extraction zone “with no ability to take off due to a technical error” during a mission to retrieve injured personnel in southern Lebanon.
The army said a second helicopter was deployed to complete the evacuation, while technical crews repaired the fault, allowing the aircraft to later resume operation.
Israeli officials insisted the incident was not the result of hostile action, stating that the helicopter “was not damaged by Hezbollah’s fire.”
The claims could not be independently confirmed, and the Israeli military is known to tightly control information related to battlefield incidents involving Hezbollah.
Earlier on Monday, the army also reported that three soldiers were wounded after an explosive-laden drone allegedly launched by Hezbollah struck their position.
The developments come amid continued cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire announced on April 17 and later extended to May 17, which has not fully halted ongoing strikes and retaliatory attacks in the area.
