3 Dead, 14 Injured as Fire Rips Through Manhattan Apartment Building

(MENAFN) A devastating early-morning blaze ripped through a six-story residential building in Upper Manhattan on Monday, claiming three lives, injuring 14 others, and displacing more than 100 residents, Fire Department officials confirmed.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene after a report of a fire on the building's second floor came in at 12:35 a.m. local time (0435 GMT). Crews battled the inferno for nearly two and a half hours before bringing it under control at 3:00 a.m. (0700 GMT).

Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while nine others were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The total injury count reached 14, officials said.

The blaze left a trail of displacement in its wake, with over 100 residents forced from their homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Monday's deaths push the total number of fire-related fatalities in New York City to 36 so far this year, according to authorities — a grim milestone that underscores the persistent and deadly threat of residential fires across the city's five boroughs.
