US Signals Additional Charges in White House Correspondents’ Dinner Case

(MENAFN) Federal authorities in the United States say further charges are expected in connection with the investigation into the shooting tied to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, as the case continues to develop.

According to reports, US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro confirmed on Monday that prosecutors anticipate expanding the indictment against the suspect as new evidence is reviewed.

Cole Tomas Allen, identified as the suspect in Saturday’s incident, appeared in federal court on Monday for arraignment. He is currently facing charges that include attempted assassination of the US president.

“There will be additional charges as this investigation continues to unfold,” Pirro told reporters, also pointing to what she described as the suspect’s weapons cache—including a shotgun, semi-automatic firearms, and several knives—as evidence of intent to cause harm.

She rejected suggestions that the incident was not intended to be violent, calling such claims “absurd.”

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said prosecutors have already filed three federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president, which carries a potential life sentence. He added that additional counts include interstate transport of a firearm and use of a weapon during a violent crime, the latter of which carries a mandatory minimum sentence to be served consecutively.

Blanche said law enforcement agencies responded effectively and prevented what he described as a planned attack.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau initiated a large-scale investigation response, including interviews and search operations carried out in California and Connecticut as part of the ongoing inquiry.
