Iran Blames US, Israel for Escalating Regional Tensions at UN

(MENAFN) Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Monday accused the United States and Israel of carrying out what he described as an “unwarranted large-scale war of aggression” against Tehran, while rejecting allegations against Iran and linking recent maritime tensions to actions by Washington and its allies.

Speaking before the UN Security Council during a session on maritime security, Amir Saeid Iravani argued that the US and Israel had contributed to rising instability in the region and disruptions in key shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

“Since 28 February, the United States and the Israeli regime have waged an unwarranted large-scale war of aggression against Iran,” Iravani said, adding that such actions violate the UN Charter and threaten both regional and international stability.

He further accused the United States of imposing what he described as a maritime blockade, alleging the seizure of Iranian commercial vessels and the detention of their crews. He characterized these actions as unlawful and compared them to piracy.

“These dangerous, escalating measures violate international law…and amount to acts of aggression,” he said.
