Turkey Denounces Israel Targeting Only Palestinians with Death Penalty

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Communications Director, Burhanettin Duran, publicly criticized a recent Israeli law that authorizes the death penalty specifically for Palestinians.

“I strongly condemn and denounce the death penalty legislation passed by the Israeli Parliament, which is intended to apply exclusively to Palestinians,” Duran stated on social media platform X.

He further described the legislation as an extension of what he considers systemic oppression. “We view this so-called law, which we see as an extension of their genocide against innocent people, as a clear example of oppression that disregards the rule of law, deepens discrimination and tyranny, and seeks to legitimize the collective punishment of an entire people,” he added.

According to reports, the Israeli legislative body approved the contentious law on Monday evening with a 62-48 vote, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu casting his support in favor.

The statute stipulates that executions will be performed by hanging, overseen by prison officers assigned by the Israeli Prison Service, and grants legal immunity and anonymity to those carrying out the sentences.

Duran condemned the law as rooted in “racist and discriminatory” policies, asserting that it contradicts both legal standards and basic human principles. He called on the global community to respond, warning against remaining passive in the face of “blatant lawlessness” and urging “concrete steps in the name of justice, human rights, and universal values.”
