(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump's high-stakes diplomatic gambit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin collapsed Thursday, with the American leader admitting zero breakthrough on critical Ukraine and Iran discussions.
"No, I didn't make any progress with him today at all," Trump bluntly told reporters following the encounter. "I'm not happy about that."
The president revealed the extensive nature of their exchange, explaining: "We had a call. It was a pretty long call. We talked about a lot of things, including Iran, and we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine."
Putin demonstrated unwavering resolve during the hour-long conversation, with his administration signaling Moscow's determination to pursue its military objectives. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov outlined the Kremlin's steadfast position following the diplomatic exchange.

Despite the diplomatic impasse on warfare, Moscow expressed readiness for renewed negotiations. Ushakov confirmed Russia's openness to a third round of Ukraine talks, though he noted that Putin and Trump avoided discussing specific negotiation frameworks during their conversation.
The leaders did identify potential collaboration opportunities beyond the conflict zones. Putin and Trump reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing economic partnerships between their nations, particularly targeting energy and space sectors, according to Ushakov's briefing.
