Trump states possible Gaza truce soon
“There could be a deal on a Gaza ceasefire by next week,” Trump remarked while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One. He noted, however, that he had not yet received a full update on the current status of the talks.
Hamas confirmed it had delivered a “positive response” to the framework through mediators from Egypt and Qatar, stating it was “fully prepared to immediately enter into a round of negotiations regarding the mechanism for implementing this framework.”
A representative from Hamas added that the group is seeking firm assurances for a complete Israeli troop withdrawal and a permanent end to the fighting.
Trump is said to have assured that the proposed ceasefire, initially lasting 60 days, could be extended if necessary.
This diplomatic effort is unfolding as deadly genocide persist. On Friday alone, officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reported that at least 20 Palestinians were killed while trying to collect humanitarian aid.
The United Nations indicated that 613 Palestinians have lost their lives in the past month during efforts to obtain food.
In a separate attack, Israeli airstrikes targeted Gaza’s Muwasi region, killing 15 individuals, including eight women and one child, according to hospital sources in the area. The Israeli military stated it is currently investigating the incident.
The conflict traces back to an October 7, 2023, assault in which Hamas-led fighters launched a large-scale attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people and the capture of approximately 250 hostages.
Since then, health officials in Gaza report that over 57,000 Palestinians have been killed. Despite growing international appeals for a ceasefire, Israel’s military campaign has continued, with more than 57,200 Palestinians—primarily women and children—reported dead since late 2023.
